REPORT: Talks held at Baabda Palace have positive impact on cabinet formation process

Talks held on Wednesday at the Baabda Palace are having a positive impact on the formation of a new government, mainly after President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam have suggested the 8-8-8 cabinet formula.

Sources reported that the March 8 coalition has accepted to participate in the new government, noting that the fifth Shiite minister will be appointed by President Sleiman.

“The said minister is an aide to the President and a retired soldier,” the sources said.

This as, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri has accepted, in principle, to “sit around the cabinet table” along with Hezbollah “only if the group withdraws its fighters from Syria,” the sources reported.

The same sources added that the Future bloc did not express positive stances in this regard, noting that it has questioned Hezbollah’s approval to withdraw from Syria.
