The Syrian Information Ministry said that humanitarian aid has started to enter the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk in Damascus. The Ministry added that assistance was allowed into the camp, noting that critical medical cases will be transferred to nearby hospitals. The head of the Palestinian Reconciliation Committee Sheikh Mohammad Omar said the aid will be delivered with the cooperation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and other humanitarian organizations. Starvation and illness exacerbated by hunger or the lack of medical aid in a Palestinian camp in Damascus besieged for months by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad have killed at least 85 people, activists said Wednesday. The Yarmouk camp, located on the southern edge of the Syrian capital, is one of several opposition areas where humanitarian conditions have crumbled under a tight blockade imposed by pro-government forces.
