REPORT: One killed, others wounded in Syrian shelling on Lebanon’s Akkar

Syrian national Hisham Khaled al-Ahmad was killed and several others were wounded when Syrian shelling targeted the border town of Akkar on Friday.

Some of the injured were identified as First Sergeant (Z. A. al-Ali) who hails from Mashta Hammoud and Mohammad Mansour from the town of Bani Sakher.

The wounded were transferred to the Qobeiyat hospital for treatment.

The shelling left the homes of two citizens Nazir Saleh, who lives in Mashta Hammoud, and Gerges al-Khoury of Shadra, severely damaged, the two said.

The Syrian shelling also targeted the outskirts of al-Abboudieh, Heker Jannin, al-Arama and Qoubour al-Bayd.

The residents of the border towns called on President Michel Sleiman, Lebanese Armed Forces Chief General Jean Qahwaji and all the concerned officials to interfere in order to end these violations.

Shelling from the Syrian side has also damaged other Lebanese border towns which have bore the brunt of the cross-border attacks.

This comes as a result of the fighting taking place in Syria between Syrian government troops and rebels seeking to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.
