The Lebanese Armed Forces seized on Sunday a silver Toyota Rav-4 vehicle in Baalbek’s Ham region, loaded with a large quantity of explosives. The vehicle, coming from the Syrian region of Qalamoun and heading toward Beirut, was intercepted 600 meters away from the LAF checkpoint on the Eastern Lebanon Mountain Range. It is worth noting that the driver fled the car when it was first spotted in the said region, and the military expert is dismantling the explosives found in it. Army Command:
The Army Command announced that soldiers' suspicions were raised after the driver fled the vehicle some 600 meters (one-third of a mile) from an army checkpoint, adding that military experts subsequently found "a large amount" of explosives in the vehicle. The Army Command added that a military expert is dismantling the explosives to identify their quantity and their type. Following examinations, sources said that the weight of the bomb was found to be 240 kilograms, in addition to 10 kilograms of highly flammable materials and two 122 mm artillery. The devices were distributed across the vehicle and linked to a 200-meter-long detonator, with a wireless detonation and timing devices composed of two mobile phones, an electric ignition device, a timing device and a 12-volt battery. A large amount of narcotic pills were also found inside the vehicle. For more details, watch Edmond Sassine's full report in the video above
