REPORT: Army sets up checkpoint at entrance of Refaat Eid’s residence

The Lebanese Armed Forces Command issued a statement on Saturday evening whereby it said that the security measures carried out in Tripoli will continue in a bid to control the situation, noting that the army forces stormed suspicious locations in Jabal Mohsen and seized weapons and ammunition.

LAF troops had been carrying out raid operations in Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen, in search for two citizens from Sana and Dib families, suspected of opening fire at citizen Ahmad Mhaysh in Bab al-Tebbaneh.

In  this context, sources told LBCI that army troops set up a checkpoint at the entrance of the residence of Arab Democratic Party official Refaat Eid in Jabal Mohsen in search for the suspect.

16-year-old Ahmad Mhaysh was wounded by sniper fire in Tripoli's Maloula and the Lebanese army intervened to pull him out of the street.      

Meanwhile, a bomb was hurled and gunshots were fired in Tripoli's Syria street.

Cautious calm prevailed on Saturday in Tripoli's fighting axes in the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen after a meeting was held yesterday at the residence of MP Mohammad Kabbara whereby the parties were committed to ceasefire.    

In this regard, the Secretary General of the Arab Democratic Party Refaat Ali Eid told LBCI that his party is committed to the ceasefire, and said: “the Future Movement proved during Friday’s meeting its ability to handle the security situation.”     

For his part, Bab al-Tabbaneh commander Ziad Allouki told LBCI that the truce is fragile, and said: “no one will prevent us from defending ourselves.”
    
Security sources told LBCI that the Lebanese Army will only take the decision to enter into Tripoli’s fighting axes after getting guarantees that it will not be targeted.   

The latest round of clashes in Tripoli which erupted on the 13th of March left 26 persons killed and at least 180 injured.
