REPORT: EDL contract workers announce general strike on Wednesday
Electricite Du Liban (EDL) contract workers said on Tuesday they will hold demonstrations across the Lebanese regions on Wednesday until amendments are introduced to the draft law related to conditions of their employment.       

Earlier in the day, EDL workers staged a sit-in outside the parliament, while a committee of the workers headed to hold meetings with MPs over the controversial draft law.       

In turn, the head of EDL workers committee Lebnan Makhoul said the workers will wait for the parliament's decision to take the appropriate measures.       

The workers scuffled on Tuesday morning with the security apparatuses after trying to enter Beirut's Riyad al-Soleh Square by force.          

This comes after the workers held a rally from outside the EDL institution in Corniche el-Nahr towards Martyrs Square.        

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.         

Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
