REPORT: Parliament session adjourned until next week, Berri underscores need to finalize Pay Scale issue

Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned the parliament session until next week.

At the end of the session, Berri said the parliament will convene next Wednesday and Thursday, noting that next Tuesday the cabinet is set to hold a session to discuss the draft law pertaining to the series of ranks and salaries.

In this regard, Berri stressed the need to finalize the Pay Scale issue so that the parliament will be able to discuss the parliamentary electoral draft laws.

The Parliament held its third general authority session on Thursday, under the chairmanship of House Speaker Nabih Berri, with 2 items on its agenda.

During the session, the parliament referred to the joint committees, the draft law presented by the head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun and which stipulates granting compensations to the army officers and military personnel who were discharged in October 13th 1990.

Accordingly, the parliament gave the joint committees a one-month deadline to discuss the draft law, amid objection voiced by former PM Fouad Siniora who called for including all the officers and military personnel in the proposal.

The said draft law led to a verbal clash between MPs Sami Gemayel and Assem Kanso, after Gemayel described the former Syrian presence as an occupation of Lebanon's territories.
