REPORT: First aid convoy arrives to besieged town of Tfeil amid security measures
The first convoy, carrying food and medical assistance, arrived on Tuesday to the besieged town of Tfeil amid security measures.

The residents said they set up barriers at Tfeil's entrances to prevent gunmen from entering the town.

They added that five wounded, including a Lebanese, will be transported from the border town to Lebanon's hospitals to receive treatment.

This comes after a security team, backed by emergency rescue workers, prepared to send aid to residents of Lebanon's eastern border village of Tfeil, which has been besieged by Syrian regime troops.

Tfeil, was cut off from the rest of Lebanon after the only accessible road to the Bekaa Valley came under the Syrian army's control.

The Lebanese village of Tfeil lies on a promontory surrounded on three sides by Syrian territory.

The security team comprised of officers from the Lebanese Armed Forces, Internal Security Forces and General Security – assembled in the main square of Brital near the eastern city of Baalbek in the morning in preparation for the operation.

Aid trucks, too, were ready to deliver their load of 1,000 food packages and 6,000 liters of fuel oil.

Residents said the village, home to 3,000 Lebanese and around 5,000 Syrian refugees, came under heavy bombardment last week.

Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq said that if the plan does not work, he would take the case to the Cabinet and file a complaint to the United Nations Security Council over the besieged village.
