REPORT: USJ’s administration suspends student elections

The administrative council of Saint Joseph University issued Thursday a decision to suspend the student council elections, due to the political and security situation in the country, which may have negative repercussions on academic life at the university.

For his part, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called on USJ's administration to revoke its decision to suspend the student council elections, urging the students to resume their political activities inside the university "with transparency."

During its regular meeting held on Wednesday, the council’s members agreed to launch a campaign to raise awareness on democracy and patriotism, to be prepared and organized by the students in cooperation with their faculties.

The council also decided to form a committee tasked with reviewing the electoral law adopted in the student council elections, in order to ensure fair representation among the members of the council.
