As part of our effort to shed light on women's rights in Lebanon, LBCI will be broadcasting a 30 second segment on the nightly news bulletin over a span of 16 days.
Zalfa, a character created by KAFA (Enough Violence & Exploitation), will be explaining the inner workings of the law against domestic violence in a bid to raise awareness on law 293.
In tonight's segment Zalfa says: In case you were subjected to domestic violence, the first thing you have to do is to call the hotline number 112, head to the nearest police station or to refer to the interim Relief Judge.
Members of the ISF are now trained to respond to domestic violence emergency calls on 112. After which, they are required to contact the nearest police station to subsequently send in a unit to inspect your home.
Alternatively, they may provide you with a contact number to an organization that may help you.
If needed, they are also entitled to send you a Red Cross unit.
If police members arrive to your home, questioning will not be conducted in the presence of the abuser.
You may choose to be escorted to the nearest police station where you will have the choice to file a complaint.
