Prime Minister Tammam Salam declared Monday that the International Community has not taken any effective measures to lessen the burden imposed by the presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, calling on authorities to take action in this regard.
During a ceremony held to launch Lebanon’s crisis response plan, Salam said that strong efforts have been exerted in order to draft the plan, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed in these efforts.
He stressed the need to help Lebanon and all the countries affected by the Syrian war.
PM Salam added that the social and economic conditions are leading a great number of youth to resort to violence in an attempt to ensure their needs.
“We need Lebanon’s crisis response plan to become a plan of action rather than just an awareness campaign so that enough funds can be collected,” he stated.
Salam explained that its aim is to define the frameworks of the necessary measures to be taken in a bid to end the negative repercussions of the Syrian crisis, pointing out that international and local responses were not sufficient in eliminating the risks.
“If a decision were made to reduce the amount of assistance assigned to Lebanon, we should expect the worst,” he said. For more details, watch Remmy Derbass' report in the video above
