REPORT: MP Georges Adwan: LF suspends its participation in Parliamentary Communications Committee
The Parliamentary Communications Committee held its fifth meeting on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the aim of forging a formula for a new electoral law.

The meeting was chaired by the committee’s president, MP Robert Ghanem, and attended by MPs Georges Adwan, Ali Bazzi, Ali Fayyad, Sami Gemayel, Marwan Hamadeh, Hagop Pakradounian, Amil Rahmeh and Ziad al-Qaderi.

Following the meeting, Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan said that the LF party has suspended its participation in the committee until a parliamentary session is scheduled to vote for a new electoral law.

Adwan also noted that the committee is "only passing time" until a settlement is reached over the presidential vacuum.

The committee tasked with discussing Lebanon's new electoral law kicked off its first session last month with an agreement to wrap up the issue within a deadline of one month.

In May 2013, the parliament voted to extend its own term for 17 months after rival political sides failed to draft a new electoral law other than the one based on 50 small-sized districts in a winner-takes-all based system.

Lebanese MPs have also deepened the political deadlock in the country after they voted once again to delay the elections and announced they would extend their term until 2017, which was met by huge popular dismay.
