REPORT: Lebanon bids farewell to former PM Omar Karami
Hundreds of mourners, including politicians, gathered on Friday to bid farewell to former Prime Minister Omar Karami in the northern city of Tripoli.

Karami will be laid to rest in a funeral after prayers, which were led by Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Daryan at the Mansouri Great mosque.

Earlier, Former Prime Minister Omar Karami's casket was moved from the American University of Beirut Medical Center to his hometown Tripoli.

Karami passed away overnight Wednesday aged 80 after a long battle with illness.

The family issued a statement on Thursday in which it confirmed his death.

Karamai was Prime Minister of Lebanon for the first in 1990, when Selim al-Hoss gave up power, and resigned in 1992 due to economic instability.

He was sworn in again on 26 October 2004 and resigned on 19 April 2005, following protests after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Tammam Salam declared three days of national mourning over Karami's death, adding that flags will fly at half-mast for three days at all public institutions.
