REPORT: Massive fire breaks out across the Zouk Mikael power plant
The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that a fire broke out on Monday across the Zouk Mikael power plant.

NNA pointed out that civil defense teams managed to control the blaze, stressing that a garbage dump right across the power plant went up in flames due to the present heat wave in the country.

Minister of Environment Mohammed Machnouq warned last week (May 19) of forest fires due to the dramatic rise in temperatures and the severe heat wave hitting Lebanon. He also tasked the concerned parties to take the necessary precautions to prevent any fires.

Lebanon witnesses every summer a series of fires due to the wave of heat that erupts in the country with the lack of specialized teams and equipment to fight them.

Last month, two firefighters died after battling a huge blaze that erupted in Beirut's Mar Elias, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The corporals of the Beirut Fire Department were identified as Mohammad al-Mawla and Adel Saadeh.
