MP Sami Gemayel was elected the seventh president of Lebanon's Kataeb party in an internal election held at the party’s headquarters in Beirut's Saifi district on Sunday.
MP Gemayel won the majority of votes (339) after 396 delegates cast their ballots to elect a new party leader, a vice president and 16 members of the Political Bureau.
“We are proud to be the sole political party in the Middle East to practice democracy,” MP Sami Gemayel said after casting his vote earlier Sunday.
