REPORT: Family of Lebanese physician accused of fraud in US says he was victim of plot

A court in the US State of Michigan sentenced the Lebanese physician Farid al-Fata to 45 years in prison, on fraud charges.

The physician was accused of causing pain and suffering to his patients after he made them believe that they have cancer and treated them accordingly, leading to death in several cases.

Al-Fata made a fortune out of his practice, but the American authorities confiscated his properties, which are estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars.

Meanwhile, the physician’s family, residing in the Lebanese town of Ballouneh, said that Farid is the victim of plot, adding that they contacted him and he informed them that his sentence will be reduced following the appeal.
