REPORT: Minister of Labor Azzi accused of legalizing bribery, responds to claims

Minister of Labor Sajaan Azzi said the Lebanese have been complaining for years about “briberies and brokerages” at his ministry, urging citizens “not to pay any penny out of the required dues.”

In a press conference, Azzi called on citizens to abide by the fees that are now well-defined at the ministry, saying “if a citizen wants to receive documents he requested within 24 hours, he should pay LBP 50,000 to an official fund at the ministry.”

Azzi also stressed that he tried to fight corruption as he undertook numerous administrative measures to oversee the work process at the ministry, urging the need to comply with the whole plan that has been set by the Labor Ministry.

This as, social media activists denounced the minister’s decision dubbing it "a law that legalizes bribery".
