REPORT: Minister Moqbel: Solution reached over delayed military salaries
Minister of Defense Samir Moqbel criticized on Monday the way Lebanese leaders are dealing with the issue of delayed salaries of military officials, adding that a solution has been reached over the issue.
 
Moqbel’s comments were made after he held talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam: “A solution has been reached and at the end of the day, military officials would have been paid.”
 
Moqbel gave credits to Salam for reaching a solution to the crisis, saying that he “acted with great patience and studied the matter objectively until we reached a positive end.”
 
He also thanked Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil for his deployed efforts.
 
“I hope Lebanese leaders and the media would not interfere in military affairs and allow the army to perform its duties,” he added.
 
For his part, Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil stressed that the ministers must continue to assume their responsibilities, adding that "a legal but exceptional formula has been reached to pay the delayed military salaries."
 
The military have not received their salaries for the month of October which drew the anger of the army.
 
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since President Michel Sleiman's six-year mandate ended in May last year.
