Head of the Kataeb Party MP Sami Gemayel stressed the need to “abide by the laws and constitution, which stipulates that no legislation can be made in the absence of a president,” calling on the parliament to elect a new president instead of violating the Lebanese laws.
“We may not ask the citizens to abide by the laws while the deputies and ministers violate them,” he noted.
Answering a question about the reason why the Kataeb ministers have not resigned from the cabinet, MP Gemayel said that “their resignation would be the easy way and everybody would be happy.”
“But then what would happen? Who would stand in the face of the illegitimate deals?” he asked, stating that should they resign, the government would not fall, but will remain since there is no president to form another cabinet.
