REPORT: Saudi envoy Asiri says Saudi Arabia has not and will not nominate any candidate for presidency
Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia has not and will not nominate any candidate for the Lebanese presidency, adding that the kingdom “encourages” any efforts aimed at ending the presidential vacuum.

Asiri’s comments were made after meeting Kataeb party leader MP Sami Gemayel in Bikfaya whereby he noted that the presidency is inter-Lebanese initiative, adding that Saudi Arabi does not interfere in any nomination.

Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh emerged as a strong candidate for the presidency following a Paris meeting between him and the Future movement leader former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who is close to Riyadh.
