In 2017 and according to reports issued by the World Bank and Transparency International in 2016, as well as the predictions of the International Monetary Fund in 2020, former Economy Minister Raed Khoury presented a document before the cabinet back then, warning against negative figures in 2020.
The document said that the trade deficit will reach $19 billion, the budget deficit $8 billion, the public debt $110 billion and the growth will be negative, adding that more than 60% of the budget will be allocated for debt service, while the unemployment rate will reach 30%.
