High Commissioner for Human Rights expresses concerns over violent clashes in Lebanon
Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Marta Hurtado expressed concerns over the recent tensions in Lebanon.

“We are concerned by the increasing number of violent clashes between protesters and security forces in Lebanon in recent days. Some demonstrators have resorted to using violence to express their grievances, and security forces have responded, at times, with unnecessary or disproportionate use of force,” she said in her briefing notes.

“Law enforcement officers have an obligation to abide by international norms and standards on the use of force, particularly the principles of legality and proportionality,” she added.
