Persian carpets banned in global markets

Iran's name has always been linked to its carpets especially that the US, at some stage, was the 1st importer of the Persian hand-made rugs.With mounting tensions overtaking relations between the two countries, the US has since imposed a ban on the import of Iranian carpets to its markets.              

However, marketing Iranian carpets via exhibitions may be part of a solution.             

An official in the National Company for Carpets mentioned that the exhibition receives the most important traders and companies from 80 countries to expand its contracts and find new markets adding that the exhibition is a part of Iran's intensive projects to increase carpet exports.            

The carpet industry is a living source for more than 8 million Iranians, but sanctions have rocked the markets and increased the prices; however, an alternative for the US platform is now available.             

One of the traders mentioned that European countries and China are importing Persian rugs and stressed that the US is still purchasing the product from other countries.

Hand-made rugs are considered as the country's 3rd source of hard currency although prices have increased for local customers.
