With winter approaching, firewood market booms

With winter knocking on the door, the firewood market is booming. Instead of using traditional heating systems that require gas and diesel oil, Lebanese citizens are preparing for the winter season by stocking firewood that are less expensive and cause less damage.       

Unfortunately, some are chopping off trees randomly, preventing them from growing again.        

In light of the country’s economic hardship, Lebanese citizens are choosing the lowest-cost devices at a time when a new business emerged, that of imported firewood. In fact, following restrictions imposed by the ministries of environment and agriculture on deforestation, merchants resorted to the import of firewood from neighboring countries and from Europe.     

With piles of firewood up for sale in many regions, buyers are lined up in pickup trucks to get ready for the cold winter season.            

Firewood remains the best way to keep warm provided that all applicable laws are respected and trees are not cut off from their roots.
