Amirabdollahian tours Lebanese leaders- [REPORT]
Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian stressed on Thursday that Iran will always stand beside Lebanon.

Amirabdollahian’s comments were made during his meeting with President Michel Aoun at the Baabda Presidential Palace.

For his part, Aoun stressed Lebanon’s support to the efforts that are being deployed to enhance the rapprochement between the region’s states.

The Iranian minister then met with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh.

Following the meeting, he stressed that the talks aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Lebanon and Iran in various fields and help Lebanon face the problems and burdens it is going through.

"The presence of foreign forces in this region is the main reason that destabilizes its security and stability," he said.

"There is a common standpoint that all regional problems and files must be resolved by the people of the region themselves," he concluded by saying.

Amirabdollahian also met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati who stressed that "Lebanon welcomes any effort from brotherly and friendly countries and the international community as long as it falls within the context of helping it preserve the foundation of the state and its constitutional institutions, and their role in protecting, and strengthening its legitimate security and military forces."

He said that the best assistance possible for the sake of the region in general, and Lebanon in particular, amidst this critical stage, is for the dialogues and negotiations between the Arab and Iranian neighbors to result in complete consensus on various issues.

Mikati added that a potential agreement or understanding on those matters would contribute in laying the foundations for security, progress and stability, and this would have positive repercussions and benefits on Lebanon and the Lebanese people.

Later in the day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib received in his office his Iranian counterpart Amirabdollahian, and they discussed bilateral relations.

Bou Habib wished Iran "success in its negotiations be it with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the P5+ 1 countries because such a success would positively reflect on Lebanon."

From his end, Amirabdollahian noted that Iran is “fully prepared to provide all aspects of assistance, help and fraternal support to brotherly Lebanon to help it overcome the difficult stage it is currently going through."

He pointed out that Iranian specialized companies were fully prepared in a period not exceeding 18 months to build two power plants for the production of electricity with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, adding that the first would be in Beirut and the other in the south.

“We are fully prepared to carry out this ambitious project through the technical and engineering expertise we have in Iran and by benefiting from the joint Iranian-Lebanese investments,” he continued.

Amirabdollahian considered that "Lebanon, with its people, army, government and resistance, has a great ability to stand with steadfastness and heroism in the face of the ambitions of the Zionist entity and the dangers that this entity poses."

Amirabdollahian had arrived yesterday from the Russian capital, Moscow, on an official visit to Beirut.
