REPORT: Electoral law proposals to be discussed without a deadline

 
The Christian quartet committee that convened on Sunday in Bkerke to discuss the electoral law proposals while the parliamentary sub-committee is preparing to resume its works next Tuesday with the participation of March 14 MPs who were boycotting the meetings.  

The 10 MPs forming the sub-committee will be staying in a hotel near the parliament. Their meetings will kick off on Tuesday at 10:30 am. The meetings remain open and are not limited by a certain deadline.  

All electoral law proposals are included on the committee’s agenda, including proportionality proposal, smaller districts and the law proposed by minister Fouad Boutros, as well as a new proposal based on 34 electoral districts.    

In this context, MP Robert Ghanem told LBCI that the committee’s meetings will be intensified, stressing that they are not limited to a deadline.  

For his part, MP Alain Aoun said that previous experiences are not encouraging, emphasizing that it is important to reach a consensus soon, to refer the laws to the parliament to be ratified.

It is worth noting that the booking in the hotel is for one week but is subject to change.

It was later announced that the Christian quartet committee agreed on the Orthodox Gathering electoral law proposal.
