Introduction to the evening news 31-01-2013

The Lebanese have many different preoccupations; from power generating ships to civil marriage, electoral law all the way to the burden of displaced Syrians.

While each and every one of these issues deserves to be prioritized, dealing with them is not easy.

After a long wait, power generating ships are due to kick off from Turkey next week, according to Energy Minister Gibran Bassil.

From electricity to the most controversial issue for the moment: civil marriage. Following the President’s response to the stance of PM Mikati and after the “Takfeeri” Fatwa of Mufti Qabbani, the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council considered that civil marriage is rejected by the Shiite religious institution, “since the civil marriage legislation contradicts the social contract upon which the Lebanese constitution was drafted.”

As for the electoral law, the opposition and majority alike are waiting for the statements of former PM Saad Hariri on Kalam Ennas tonight.

All these developments and more in our detailed news bulletin.
