Mahfoud to LBCI: If cabinet fails to refer the pay scale, an open ended strike will kick off

The Lebanese government has finally found a source to fund the series of ranks and salaries.

In this context, the cabinet will hold a session on Monday to refer the pay scale to the parliament in light of the Union Coordinating Committee's delay to hold its open ended strike.

This as, Ministerial sources said that the pay scale will be referred on Monday to the parliament since funding sources will be ensured from increasing the investments as well as raising the taxes on bank interests, and on alcohol and tobacco.

The sources added that referring the series of ranks and salaries to the parliament will undergo some amendments such as dividing the pay scale over 3 or 4 years in addition to reducing the total amount of the pay scale by 5% which will eventually decrease the total amount to LBP 150 Billion; giving Lebanon's Public Finances the chance to ensure the required amount on due time.

For his part, Head of the private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud told LBCI that the open ended strike will kick off on Tuesday it the series of ranks and salaries were not referred to the parliament.
