REPORT: “Ossit Sawani”, a Lebanese movie revealing the darker side of Beirut

The movie “Ossit Sawani” [Blind Intersections] does not tell the story of the Lebanese war, nor does it present magical solutions for sectarianism or other problems plaguing the nation. It doesn’t even have a happy ending.

On the contrary, this movie depicts the daily struggles of the typical Lebanese people ranging from drug abuse, prostitution, and pedophilia.

After screening in various European festivals, the movie, directed by Lara Saba, will be released in Lebanese cinemas as of Thursday the 21st of February to shed light on the darker side of Beirut.

This report will examine the film and the inspirations that led to its making.
