REPORT: The real story behind Baalbek clashes

There has been no official confirmation concerning the clash that erupted between Hezbollah members and a group from the Free Syrian Army in the Lebanese rural area of Baalbek on Saturday-Sunday overnight.          

For its part, Hezbollah have not issued a statement in this regard, but information made available from the said region stated that a clash did take place between Hezbollah members and a group form the Syrian opposition who were attempting to set up rocket launchers in the area to fire toward towns in the district of Baalbek. The sources said that the Syrian opposition fighters fled toward an unknown destination, without reporting any casualties.               

On the other hand, a top security source denied the incident in a statement to LBCI, suggesting that the conflict may have taken place in the Syrian territories.            

The source added that the Lebanese Army sent a patrol to examine the scene of the alleged clash and did not find any evidence, while the hospitals in the region did not receive any injured or death, except one Hezbollah member whose condition and situation have not yet been revealed.            

Earlier in the day, Reuters news agency quoted on Sunday Lebanese security sources as saying that several fighters were killed in an overnight clash in eastern Lebanon, close to the border with Syria, between Hezbollah fighters and Syrian rebel forces.                            

In this regard, sources told LBCI that one Hezbollah fighter was killed, 4 others were wounded, and 14 Free Syrian Army soldiers were killed.                            

On another note, 3 Syrian shells landed in the outskirts of the Hermel town without causing any damages.
