Diplomatic European sources revealed to
Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday that a European initiative will be suggested on the sidelines of the G-20 conference in a bid to put an end to the Syrian crisis.
Sources added that the initiative resides in the resignation of Syrian President Bachar al-Assad and the election of a president from the Syrian regime to preside an interim government.
According to the Daily, contacts are being made to convince Russian President Vladimir Putin of the initiative.
National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt told
As-Safir newspaper on Friday that the strike against Syria will increase the chaos in the region.
MP Jumblatt undermined the possibility of Lebanon's participation in any military act against Syria, mainly Hezbollah in South Lebanon.
He also noted that progress is being achieved in the process of the formation of a new government, denying media reports saying that regional countries are hindering the aforementioned formation.
According to the Daily, MP Jumblatt noted that the Lebanese people's economic issues must be addressed as well as the repercussions of the further influx of Syrian refugees in case there were a strike against Syria
Sources said to
Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday that Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam is confronting several obstacles while forming the new government.
Sources added that the last meeting held between Salam and President Michel Sleiman at the Baabda Palace did not see any progress in the formation process.
According to the Daily, PM-Designate Salam is dealing with Lebanese leaders' "conditions and counter conditions" which are hindering his efforts in this regard.
Sources also revealed to the Daily that a meeting was held between Salam and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday to discuss the formation of the government, as well as issues related to the Sunnite sect, mainly the file of the Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani.
Sources close to Hezbollah told
Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday that the party considers itself concerned in any possible attack against Syria.
Sources in the March 8 alliance expressed concerns over the repercussions of the strike against Syria on Lebanon's security in order to hinder Hezbollah from interfering in Syria.
According to the Daily, any attempts to change the Syrian regime will turn into a regional war, adding that Hezbollah and Iran took a decision to address any attack that may be carried out against Damascus.
The same sources noted that world leaders will tackle a political solution for Syria on the sideline of the G-20 conference.
