Press Digest for Sunday April 27, 2014

The following are summaries of today's major stories published in the Arabic press. LBCI does not edit press digest articles for content, giving English-language readers insight into the various views expressed in newspapers across the Arab world.

Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun told Al-Mustaqbal daily on Sunday that his bloc will hold further contacts and consultations with regards to the presidential elections until Wednesday morning.

"If the situation remains the same, it is likely that a scenario similar to the first round of elections will take place in Wednesday's parliamentary session," MP Aoun said.

Deputy Speaker Farid Makari stressed on Sunday that the March 14 coalition will also nominate Lebanese Forces leader Samir Gegea for Wednesday's second round of elections.

"The March 14 forces are keen to elect a president who shares the coalition's principles and goals," Makari told the Kuwait-based Al-Seyassah newspaper.

He also said LF leader Geagea is the candidate who best embodies the March 14's standpoints, adding that further efforts will be exerted so that he could win the presidential elections.
