Governmental sources told Al-Mustqbal newspaper on Thursday that a new mediator dispatched by Qatar arrived in Lebanon to follow up on the case of the Arsal abducted soldiers.
According to the daily, the mediator will reactivate the communication channels with the abductors entrenched on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal.
The same sources added that the negotiations have made a significant progress, noting that new developments took place in favor of putting an end for "the national crisis."
Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq told al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Thursday that the Egyptian embassy in Beirut notified the Ministry that it received terror threats from the Islamic State group.
Machnouq added that the embassy informed the ministry in a formal letter of the threats, noting that he ordered the concerned security apparatuses to take precautionary measures in the vicinity of the embassy building.
Military sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday that the Lebanese army refuses any compromise to be made concerning the case of fugitive singer Fadel Saker.
The sources added that the military institution’s stance is clear in this regard, adding that Shaker “must turn himself in to the Intelligence bureau first to undergo investigations before referring him to the judiciary.”
According to the daily, the military institution is adamant on arresting all persons involved in the clashes against the army, adding that it will not make any compromises on the blood of its martyrs.
Change and Reform bloc MP Nabil Nicolas urged on Thursday the swift election of a new president for the country, adding that the ongoing dialogue in this regard may result in electing a new head of state.
Nicolas’s comments were made to al-Joumhouria newspaper whereby he stressed the need to elect a "strong president" who can be at the same distance from everyone.
Sources told As-Safir newspaper on Thursday that the Petroleum Authority and a French institution completed three months ago the map of oil and gas reserves in Lebanon's waters.
According to the sources, the study showed that Lebanon possesses gas reserves worth 13.5 billion barrels and 1.2 billion barrels of oil reserves.
