Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri told
Al-Hayat newspaper that he held contacts with the concerned security apparatuses urging them to put an end to the ongoing clashes in Tripoli.
Former PM Hariri also stressed to the Daily that the security authorities must be "firm while dealing with the situation in Tripoli", adding that the Lebanese state is responsible for the safety of the civilians in the city.
He warned against the stir up of sectarian strife and the spillover of the Syrian crisis into Lebanon.

As-Safir newspaper reported on Wednesday that former PM Hariri contacted Speaker Nabih Berri and agreed with him on the necessity of putting an end to the ongoing bloodshed in Tripoli.
According to the Daily, Arab Democratic Party leader Refaat Ali Eid also contacted Speaker Berri and voiced his support to the LAF deployment in the city.
Former Internal Security Forces Chief retired Major General Ashraf Rifi stressed to
Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Wednesday the importance of the Lebanese Armed Forces deployment in Tripoli city.
Major General Rifi reiterated the need to put an end to Tripoli's fighting and to spare its residents the clashes "that are reaping the lives of civilians."
According to the Daily, State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr asked the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence branch and the Internal Security Forces Information branch to provide the court with the names of leaders of axes in Tripoli.
Sources told
Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Wednesday that Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam resumed, after the extension of the parliament's mandate, his meetings with Lebanese leaders to form a new government.
Sources added that the first meeting was held on Monday between Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour dispatched by the MP Walid Jumblatt.
According to the Daily, PM-Designate Salam notified President Michel Sleiman that the appeal in regard to the extension of the parliament's mandate will not hinder efforts exerted to form a new government.
Sources close to the European Union revealed to
As-Safir newspaper on Wednesday that Hezbollah's military wing may be listed on the European Union's list of "terrorist organizations."
Sources added that the reasons behind the listing are not limited to Hezbollah's involvement in Syria's Qusayr.
According to the Daily, French sources at the Elysee and in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected the decision.
