Turkish Foreign Ministry denies reports claiming Syrian bishops held in Turkey

The Turkish Foreign Ministry denied reports claiming that the two abducted bishops, Boulos Yaziji and Youhanna Ibrahim, are on its territory.

In a statement issued on Monday, the foreign ministry said that “allegations which refer to the detention of bishops Yazigi and Ibrahim in Turkey are not realistic at all," stressing that such reports only serve the interests of some parties and aim at harming Turkey’s image and reputation.

"We hope the two bishops would be released as soon as possible as we are deploying efforts in this matter,” the statement added.

Greek Orthodox Bishop Boulos Yaziji and Syriac Orthodox Bishop Yohanna Ibrahim were kidnapped on April 22nd in Syria by armed men en route from the Turkish border.
