Turkey denies reports saying abducted Syrian bishops are on its territories

A Turkish diplomat declared that the two abducted bishops, Boulos Yaziji and Youhanna Ibrahim, are not on the Turkish territories as claimed by international media.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, denied reports released by a number of Arab newspapers stating that the bishops are held in Turkey by groups affiliated with the Syrian National Coalition and the Muslim Brotherhood.          

In this regard, the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Monday whereby it said that “allegations which refer to the detention of bishops Yazigi and Ibrahim in Turkey are not realistic at all," stressing that such reports only serve the interests of some parties and aim at harming Turkey’s image and reputation.

 Greek Orthodox Bishop Boulos Yaziji and Syriac Orthodox Bishop Yohanna Ibrahim were kidnapped on April 22nd in Syria by armed men en route from the Turkish border.
