Bombings in northern Iraq kill 2, wound 37

Iraqi officials say two separate bombings, including a suicide car bomb attack, have killed two security force members and wounded 37 people in the country's north.

Kirkuk Police Brig. Gen. Anwar Mohammed Qadir said a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car Sunday morning into a residential area in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, wounding 35 people.

Hours later, police said a roadside bomb struck a police convoy near the northern city of Mosul, killing two soldiers and wounding two others.

Two hospital officials confirmed the casualty figures for both attacks. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.

Attacks have spiked in Iraq during the past few months with more than 4,000 people killed in violence between April and August.
