Knowing that more than 1.11 billion individuals are signed up to Facebook, the result was a tracer map of blue lines, connecting each user’s geographical locations with that of their friends.
In this regard, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted the new visualization as the cover photo for his profile page, commenting “this is a map of all of the friendships formed on Facebook across the world.”
The first image was created in 2010 when the website had 500 million users; however, such projects, led by tech companies have not yet received universal praise.
