Chinese man has new nose grown on his forehead

A 22-year-old Chinese man identified as Xiaolian has had a new nose grown on his forehead after he had damaged his own in a traffic accident in August 2012 and failed to seek treatment.

Xiaolian was hospitalized in Fuzhou, Fujian province in a bid to create a replacement for his original nose which was deformed and infected.

The infection corroded the cartilage leaving the surgeons unable to repair it.

Consequently, they were left with no choice but to grow him a new nose and then transplant it in place of his damaged one.

The nose was grown by placing a skin tissue expander onto the patient’s forehead.

Surgeons said the nose has well-developed, noting that Xiaolian will undergo the transplant surgery soon.
