Berlusconi ordered to stand trial on corruption charge-sources

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was ordered on Wednesday to stand trial for corruption, justice system officials said, in the latest legal setback to hit the center-right leader.

Naples prosecutors accuse Berlusconi of bribing a former senator to switch party allegiance as part of an attempt to bring down the government of former Prime Minister Romano Prodi in 2006.

The senator, Sergio De Gregorio, who accused Berlusconi, was sentenced to 20 months in jail after plea bargaining. No comment was immediately available from Berlusconi's lawyers.
