Moroccan authorities dismantle terrorist cell

Moroccan authorities declared on Thursday that they dismantled a "terrorist cell" operating in several cities.

The Interior Ministry said that authorities had detected a member of the group who had been detained in the past on terrorism charges and was coordinating to carry out nationwide operations, including fundraising and recruiting militants.

The Interior Ministry did not reveal further information in this regard.

Earlier this year, Morocco announced the dismantling of several terrorist cells, while authorities expressed concerns over proliferation of extremist groups.

North Africa has been on high alert in recent years as regional jihadist groups have gained ground in Libya following Moammarr Gadhafi's 2011 toppling.
