At least 1,400 people have been killed in Syria over a period of 20 days since the clashes between rebel forces and the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) erupted last month, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Thursday.
The observatory said that between Jan. 3 and Wednesday Jan. 22, 760 opposition fighters, 426 ISIL members, 190 civilians and 19 unidentified persons were killed.
