Children pulled from rubble in Aleppo - amvid
Rescuers in Aleppo struggled to dig out children from building rubble in the aftermath of an attack by Syrian governments forces on Monday (June 23), video uploaded to a social media website purports to show.

The extended video clip, part of which is in this edit, is said to show the rescue of two children in the Qadi Askar neighborhood in the Syrian city, which has seen grinding conflict between rebels and President Bashar al-Assad forces for much of the past three years.

Another social media video clip purports to portray images from the aftermath, on Tuesday (June 24), of another attack by Syrian government forces, on Aleppo's Marja neighborhood.

Barrel bombing continued in Deraa on Tuesday, another hotly contested Syrian city, further video purports to show, while rebels scored a success in the shooting down of a government air force plane, according to a video said to be filmed in Mahsa in Homs province and purporting to show the plane's wreckage on the ground.

Reuters is unable to independently verify the content of these video clips, which have been obtained from a social media website.

The footage emerged as Syria handed over the remaining 8 percent of a total 1,300 tonnes of chemical weapons that it declared to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The civil war in Syria, now in its fourth year, has killed over 160,000 people, displaced half the country's 22 million population and forced 2.8 million to flee.

The conflict has taken on a new dimension with the rise of the radical Sunni insurgent group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which has used Syria as a springboard to sweep across north and west Iraq.

ISIL, which aims to create a caliphate spanning Iraq and Syria, is battling Iraqi forces for the control of cities, towns, border posts and a major oil refinery.
