Washington: The embargo will affect the Syrian regime

U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that the E.U. embargo imposed on Syrian oil will directly affect the Syrian regime’s capacity to fund the oppression of protest movements.

“Oil sales are a main source of revenue and ensure a high foreign currency inflow for the Assad regime”, Nuland added.

Nuland said that the U.S., with the help of its European partners, will continue to politically and economically pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, allowing young Syrians to take the reins peacefully and democratically.
