Powerful typhoon hits Japan, 1 killed
Powerful winds and heavy rains on Wednesday hit Miyagi Prefecture in the northeast on Japan, an area that was struck by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Strong winds paralyzed traffic, caused minor landslides, and evacuation orders were made in the areas close to the flooding rivers.

Fishermen at the Natori port secured their boats as big waves crashed ashore.

Typhoon Guchol will continue weakening through the day as it encounters cooler sea surface temperatures and increasing vertical wind shear.

Police reports the typhoon that had crossed central Japan overnight left one person killed and one still missing.

Another typhoon, Typhoon Talim is approaching over the East China Sea and expected to reach south-western regions of Japan on Friday.
