Iran to have "Halal Internet" soon
Iran is waiting for the arrival of what it called “Halal Internet”. It is a safe local electronic browsing network which conforms to Islamic principles against what is being promoted by the World Wide Web.

Several Iranian motives stand behind this network, one of which may be the maintenance of its security. In this context, Iran calls for not fearing this matter because “the Halal network will not block the access to the global web which will remain accessible to whoever wants to use it”.  Moreover, Iran is willing to extend the base of this network to include the entire Muslim world.

The internet users will constitute the biggest challenge for Iran. These users consider that the agreement between the internet standards and the Islamic principles does not necessarily mean that their needs should not be taken into consideration.

The Iranian scene witnessed a controversy regarding the name of this network, from “Halal” to “national or Islamic network”.

However, Iran could face foreign pressure in the same way as a similar Chinese experience did. Iran will also face internal challenges in order to satisfy the users.
