UN reports on death toll in Yemen
A team of U.N. officials is calling for an international probe in Yemen, where it says hundreds have died and thousands more have been injured in the government's excessive use of violence against protesters.

Officials from the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights say their visit from June 28 to July 6 found many Yemenis peacefully sought more freedoms but were "met with excessive and disproportionate use of lethal force by the state".

"Their report Tuesday concludes that "hundreds have been killed and thousands have suffered injuries, including loss of limbs.

"The U.N. says 53 people were killed during a peaceful demonstration on March 18 in Sanaa and "dozens of demonstrators" were killed on May 29 in Taizz.
