US expresses discontent towards Ban’s actions
US State Department reported Friday their discontent with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon after circulating information about his participation in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Iran.

US State Department spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, explained that the reason behind Washington’s disgruntlement is due to the summit being held in a “country which violates the international rules and poses a threat to its neighbors”. “This is a very contradictory sign on the level of presumed respect of international law”, she stressed.

The Iranian News Agency had previously reported on the 5th of August that Ban accepted the invitation to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit scheduled on the 30th and 31st of August in Tehran.

The Non-aligned Movement (NAM) is a coalition of countries that follow a non-aligned foreign policy. Their founding principles are: mutual respect, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference, mutual benefit, and peaceful co-existence.
