Fresh clashes and explosions rock Yemeni capital
Yemeni military officials say new clashes between government troops and rival tribesmen have erupted in the capital Sanaa.  

The officials say heavy gunfire and explosions started at 6 a.m. on Thursday in Sanaa' Hassaba neighborhood and are spreading to nearby streets.  

There are no immediate reports of casualties.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to release the information.  

Yemen has been rocked by months of near daily mass protests demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh's ouster, plunging the impoverished nation into deep political crisis.  

Armed tribesmen and defecting military units who support the protesters have joined the fray in a dangerous escalation that raises prospects of a civil war.
