Introduction to the evening news 23-11-2012

"History repeats itself: the first time as tragedy the second time as farce."

Perhaps this famous saying is the most applicable on Egypt, where President Mohammad Morsi is following the steps of his predecessors to consecrate a new dictatorship in the name of the revolution, in a caricature representing the events that took place a day after the Free Officers Revolution in 1952. The conflict currently taking place in Egypt is not based on the Muslim Brotherhood's position from the revolution, but is a struggle for democracy, after President Morsi issued a decree granting himself extraordinary powers that would make him a distorted version of the rulers who preceded him.

In this context, Morsi started consolidating his power, driven by the moral victory that Egypt achieved by the role it played in the Gaza truce. This agreement, along with the Syrian crisis may be the main motives for the visit of the Iranian Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani to the region, starting with Damascus, passing by Beirut and then to Turkey. These visits seem to be aimed at putting an end to the Iranian losses, seemingly since during the Israeli aggression against Gaza, Iran appeared as just an "old friend" of the Hamas Movement.

All these developments and more in our detailed news bulletin.
